How it's calculated

Annual pay is the hourly rate × hours per week × 52. Tax is then worked out on that annual figure, exactly as for a salary.

The national minimum wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 an hour ($1,004.90 for a 38-hour week). Casual employees get at least a 25% loading instead of paid leave, so the casual minimum is $33.05 an hour. Your award may set a higher rate.
