Leave loading comes from your award or agreement, not the NES. Some awards pay the weekend or shift penalty instead if it’s higher. It’s taxed like normal pay.

How it's calculated

Leave loading = base pay for the leave period × 17.5% (or the percentage in your award or agreement).

It isn’t part of the National Employment Standards, so it depends on your award, agreement or contract. Some awards pay the weekend or shift penalties you’d normally earn instead, if that’s higher.

Leave loading is taxed like normal pay. It generally counts as ordinary time earnings, so your employer pays super on it, unless the loading only makes up for overtime you would have missed.
